World Oil Award for Best Exploration Technology
World Oil awards highlight the creative thinking, strong leadership and technological innovations that drive the E&P industry. The awards cover all facets of the exploration, development and production industry. A 17-member Advisory Board, most well recognized in industry and representing different sectors of the industry, provides guidance in identifying and objectively assessing the winners.
- GX Technology, ION's seismic imaging services subsidiary, received the 2006 Best Exploration Technology Award for its Reverse Time Migration (RTM) technique. The award was given to the leading acquisition technology (including seismic and "pathfinder" technology, geochemistry and remote-sensing technology), or algorithm/processing technology introduced during the year. Nominations were judged on both economic value and break-through capabilities. This unique program also directly benefits selected universities that prepare students for careers in the petroleum industry.
- Input/Output received the 2002 Best Exploration Solution Award for its VectorSeis technology.
Hart's E&P Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation
Hart's E&P prestigious Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation honor the world's best new tools and techniques for finding, drilling, and producing oil and gas wells. Entries are judged on their potential for improving profitability, safety, or efficiency. The judging committee is composed of experienced industry personnel from around the world with respected engineering backgrounds and oilfield expertise.
- 2005, ION received an Honorable Mention Meritorious Award for DigiRANGE II and Acoustic Bird. The acoustic positioning system enables seismic contractors to better determine the location of hydrophones on towed streamers reducing positional uncertainty and increasing accuracy of 4D marine surveys.
- 2004, ION received the Special Meritorious Award for our advanced processing technique, AZIM and an Honorable Mention for VectorSeis Ocean, the company's redeployable technology solution for seismic acquisition on the seabed.
- 2003, ION's MEMS Si-Flex Accelerometer won in the Exploration - Individual Equipment category. The microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) accelerometer provides a low-noise, low-distortion sensor with exceptional bandwidth, dynamic range, stability and robustness. In the Exploration - Systems category, ION's VectorSeis System Four VR is the first commercial seismic system that provides full-wavefield imaging for improved visibility in such difficult areas as gas clouds and gas chimneys. The system reduces equipment weight, reduces manpower requirements, lessens HSE exposure, and cuts cycle time.
SEG J. Clarence Karcher Award
To honor the memory of Clarence Karcher and his enormous contribution to exploration geophysics, the J. Clarence Karcher Award is awarded in recognition of significant contributions to the science and technology of exploration geophysics by a young geophysicist of outstanding abilities who, in the unanimous opinion of the Honors and Awards Committee and the Executive Committee, merits such recognition. In 2003, Edward Jenner of GX Technology's AXIS Imaging Division received such recognition. Recipients must be less than 35 years of age on November 1 of the year preceding presentation of the award. A maximum of three awards can be given each year.
