Field Service Centre Opens in Jordan
Further to the 2006 news release detailing our plans to establish a Regional Field Service Centre in Jordan, ION is pleased to announce that the centre, created in partnership with Geophysical Service Centre (GSC) was officially opened in October 2007.
The opening ceremony took place on 29th October in Aqaba, Jordan. Brian Hanson, ION Chief Financial Officer and Koid TengBeng, ION Executive VP and COO, joined the ceremony, along with Esam Samara and Nour Al-Tubor from GSC, to present ION's vision to an assembly of more than 40 key Oil Company representatives from Jordan and the surrounding areas.
The decision to establish a dedicated regional centre in Jordan is a result of the continued growth in exploration activities in MENA and with the anticipation of further opportunities afforded by the gradual opening up of Iraq. The main purpose of the facility will be to support ION's cutting edge VectorSeis® digital sensor technology, and Scorpion®, which were designed to help improve image resolution in these challenging environments by recording the full seismic wavefield. There has been a significant interest in full-wave imaging from both the NOC's and international E&P companies operating in the region. In addition, ION will utilise the centre as a remote training facility to operate as an alternative to our Houston headquarters.
The centre will employ local Jordanians and Iraqis. To support the local workforce, ION will undertake a variety of activities, including training for the technicians to service the company's land seismic equipment.
